Sleep apnoea and HCi claims
27 March 2025
HCi recognises the impact of sleep apnoea on overall health. So, we take several steps to support our members who have a medically confirmed sleep apnoea diagnosis and their treatment requirements.
Diagnostic sleep testing
Depending on your level of HCi hospital cover, you can claim for overnight sleep studies when admitted to hospital as a private patient. A hospital excess payment may apply.
If your HCi extras policy covers health screening checks, then you may also be eligible for some costs associated with conducting overnight at-home diagnostic tests.
HCi cover for related health appliances and aids
HCi covers approved sleep apnoea appliances under eligible levels of extras cover. Thus helping offset your costs of medically necessary sleep apnoea mouthguards or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) appliances.
Claims may also be payable for CPAP masks and hoses needing periodic replacement.
While HCi can support eligible members with medically necessary equipment and treatment, the following items are not currently covered:
- Servicing and repair of sleep apnoea appliances or accessories,
- General accessories such as filters, cleaning wipes, travel cases, battery packs and power cords,
- Machine rental costs or costs associated with trial devices.
Wellness and chronic disease management
Your extras policy may also cover support for medically recommended and approved lifestyle modification programs, such as weight loss or smoking cessation, that may help your sleep apnoea.
Claims can be submitted securely using HCi’s Online Member Services (OMS).
NOTE: All claim benefits are subject to eligibility conditions. Waiting periods and benefit limits also apply, as outlined in your level of cover. You may be required to complete a Medical Eligibility Declaration and have it signed by your health provider to confirm medical necessity.
