Secondary payment accounts for dependants

15 September 2025

HCi pays approved claims into the bank account listed on the membership.

Generally, the claims account is in the name of the member and only the member can change these details.

What if the dependant pays the medical bills?

Sometimes a dependant will have their own membership card and pay the service provider themselves.

In this case, the dependant may want the HCi claim to be paid to them instead of the member.

When submitting a claim form, there is the option of including bank account details for the dependant’s account as a one off arrangement, with the member’s permission.

Secondary bank account arrangements

Sometimes a dependant routinely pays for medical expenses and wants to receive the claim payments every time. If so, a secondary account may be possible.

Things to note about setting up a secondary account.

  • All claims relating to the specific dependant will be paid into the dependant’s account. Note there is no capacity to adjust this for certain claims or claim types. Everyone else on the policy will continue to have claims paid into the member’s account.
  • Only the member or their authorised person can authorise a secondary account as they control the membership and are liable for the premiums
  • The relevant dependant must be at least 18 years old or have demonstrated medical capacity* before requesting a secondary account arrangement
  • It must be a bank account – we cannot pay claims onto a credit card
  • Bank details of the secondary account will not show in OMS and cannot be updated in OMS

To set up a secondary account, please contact our friendly team for assistance. You can call or visit us and we’ll get it sorted with you. Of course, security checks will be run before any changes are made.

The member (or their authorised person) can also contact us directly to revoke or change a secondary bank account. No one else can make changes to payment accounts.

* Medical capacity applies to a mature minor considered able to understand and manage their own medical affairs. A GP or other suitable medical professional must provide written confirmation of a child’s medical capacity.
