Federal Government Increases Maximum Age of Eligible Dependants.
The Government has now passed legislation increasing the maximum age of eligible dependants for private health insurance policies from 23 to 31 years (inclusive), and removed the age limits altogether for eligible people with disabilities. Thus, family cover can include your children past their 23rd birthday depending on specific Funds rules.
The Legislation was passed on 22 June 2021, and given Royal Assent from the Governor General on 29 June 2021. The Federal Department of Health is now consulting with the sector on the impact of the changes and development of draft rules associated with the legislation, and we are considering the implementation of the changes in our systems. It is not compulsory for funds to introduce these changes.
We expect to update members outlining how the provisions will apply before the end of the calendar year.
If you or someone you know may benefit from these changes please email us at enquiries@hciltd.com.au or call us on 1800 804 950. We will then register your interest and keep you updated.
