Health Care Insurance (HCI) and the Pharmacy Guild of Australia have partnered to provide HCI’s Tasmanian members with access to a hassle-free, flu vaccination service utilising the Pharmacy Guild’s network of community pharmacies.

In an innovative approach, Tassie based members of HCI, Tasmania’s oldest private health fund, can book their free flu vaccination at a time and at the Tasmanian pharmacy that suits them, through an easy-to-use personalised booking portal using a QR code or via the weblink – https://pharmacybookings.com.au/GCH (check your inbox for more information on how to book!)

HCI Chief Executive Officer, Michelle Wade, said “I’m delighted that we’re able to offer our Tassie member something that will directly benefit their health over the coming flu season via a flexible online booking system.

The COVID-19 pandemic has also highlighted the importance being vaccinated against the flu will help to reduce the severity and spread of seasonal influenza which could lower a person’s immunity and make them more susceptible to other illnesses, such as COVID-19.

This program also supports Tasmanian community pharmacies which are essential local businesses, whilst offering HCI members choice and flexibility to access their flu vaccination.

Director of the Pharmacy Guild – Tasmanian Branch, Monique Mackrill, said “Community pharmacies are locally owned small businesses that provide a health hub for the community through a wide range of services, including vaccinations.

Pharmacists are highly skilled healthcare practitioners and receive training in vaccination services. Pharmacists have to meet standard service requirements including recording all immunisation services against the Australian Immunisation Register.

As we enter this year’s flu season, vaccination is highly recommended. Even if you have had influenza last year it is important that you receive a seasonal influenza vaccination every year due to changing influenza strains. As the strains change from year to year specific vaccinations are developed to provide protection against those strains. The more people that have the vaccination helps to build herd immunity” .
