Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month – February 2021

Feb 12, 2021Being healthy, Community, Uncategorized

Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer in Australia. Over 1500 Australian women are diagnosed each year.

This is why at HCI we are getting behind this campaign.

There is no effective screening program for ovarian cancer, so the best way of detecting the disease is to know the signs and symptoms.

In Australia, the five-year survival rate for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer is 46%. In comparison, the overall five-year survival rate for women diagnosed with breast cancer is 91%.

This can change…

If you know your body, understand the symptoms, and are aware of the risks of ovarian cancer, you will have a greater chance of detecting the disease.

Know the ‘Signs and Symptoms’ of Ovarian Cancer

The most common symptoms of ovarian cancer are:
1. Bloating
2. Pelvic or abdominal pain
3. Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
4. Frequent or urgent urination
(Other symptoms may include fatigue, indigestion, back pain, constipation, pain during intercourse or menstrual irregularities)

If you experience any of these symptoms daily or over the course of several weeks see your Doctor. Early detection increases your chance of survival.
